PAT TESTING
Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) is the process of checking electrical appliances to ensure they are safe for use within a property. It includes a combination of visual inspection and electrical testing to identify damage, deterioration, or faults that may present a risk of electric shock or fire.
Why PAT testing is important
Faulty or damaged electrical appliances increase the risk of harm to occupants and can contribute to fire incidents. PAT testing helps identify issues early and demonstrates that reasonable steps have been taken to maintain electrical safety. For landlords and property managers, PAT testing supports compliance with electrical safety duties in rented and commercial premises.
What PAT testing involves
A competent person inspects the appliance, plug, and flexible cable for visible signs of damage. Class I equipment also undergoes electrical testing to confirm the integrity of the protective earth connection and overall safety performance.
Who carries out PAT testing
PAT testing should be completed by someone with the appropriate knowledge, skills, and experience to avoid danger. ARK Fire Safety Management Ltd provides clear guidance on PAT requirements and can carry out testing through our insured, qualified and competent staff.
What you will receive
Following inspection and testing, you will receive a clear report containing:
• A list of appliances tested, including type, description, and location
• Test results for each appliance
• Details of any items that failed, including reasons
• A pass or fail label on each appliance showing the test date and inspector’s name.
If any results require clarification, the testing professional will explain the findings and outline any recommended actions.
